21 quyển sách được người Anh yêu thích
Danh sách 21 tác phẩm được chon ra trong số 100 quyển mà 140.000 người chọn qua vòng sơ tuyển hồi tháng Tư.
Đây là chương trình có tên Big Read do đài BBC thực hiện.
Danh sách 21 tác phẩm bao gồm sáu sách trẻ em, tác phẩm của chị em nhà Bronte và các tác phẩm best-seller hiện đại.
Các tiệm sách ở Anh nói các quyển sách được chọn trong danh sách 100 đã trở nên bán chạy hơn.
Trong bảy tuần nữa, những người nổi tiếng sẽ bày tỏ quan điểm của họ xung quanh 21 tác phẩm.
Mỗi tuần, người dẫn chương trình Clive Anderson sẽ tóm tắt các tranh luận. Người xem sẽ bầu chọn ra quyển sách được nước Anh ưa chuộng nhất (the Nation's Favourite Book) vào ngày 13-12.
Trong danh sách 21 quyển, có truyện của Charles Dickens, Jane Austen và chị em Charlotte và Emily Bronte.
Tác phẩm của họ cạnh tranh với Lord of the Rings (JRR Tolkien), His Dark Materials (Philip Pullman), và The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Cuốn theo chiều gió của Margaret Mitchell cũng lọt vào danh sách 21, ngoài ra có Chiến tranh và Hòa bình của Leo Tolstoy.
Mỗi tác giả chỉ được phép có một tác phẩm lọt vào Top 21, nên JK Rowling chỉ có quyển Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Sự nổi tiếng của bà hiện rõ, khi ba quyển sách khác về Harry Potter xếp thứ 22, 23 và 24.
